Amy Landreth of Chadron is a member of the Tau Beta Pi chapter at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in Rapid City that recently received two awards at a national convention in Madison, Wis., Oct. 7-9.
Landreth, a civil engineering major, is president of the chapter. She is the daughter of Larry and Teresa Landreth of Chadron.
The students received the Secretary's Commendation Award for having perfect reporting for the past year and was presented with a $500 scholarship for having received the award for three consecutive years. The second award was for outstanding project activity in each of four diverse areas: assisting the college, promoting engineering, liberal culture and social. Only 23 of the 220 chapters received both awards.
Tau Beta Pi is a national engineering honor society and members are selected from engineering majors in the upper eighth of those in the junior class and upper fifth of the senior class.
