South Dakota Tech Receives Research Awards
South Dakota Tech, an engineering and science university in Rapid City, S.D., recently received the following research and development awards:
$200,000 From the National Science Foundation to create a women’s mentoring program at the university.
$110,000 from the Great Plains Education Foundation to continue developing South Dakota Tech’s biochemical engineering initiative in chemical engineering.
$585,000 from the State of South Dakota’s 2010 Initiative to create the Center for Accelerated Applications at the Nanoscale.
$60,000 from NASA to develop instrumentation for solar sails for space exploration.
$22,000 from the South Dakota Department of Transportation and U.S. Department of Transportation to study the performance of two new types of concrete that are being used to build five bridges in Rapid City and Sioux Falls, S.D. A Tech researcher developed the new types of concrete.
$110,000 from the National Science Foundation to continue a research project into the creation of nanocomposite materials.
