WESTERN CLASSIC SHANE TO BE SHOWN AT ELKS THEATRE THIS SUNDAY
Considered by many to be the ultimate western classic, Shane will be shown at 6: 00 p. m. this Sunday at the Elks Theatre as part of the SDSM& T Devereaux Library 1998 film series. Shane was filmed on location in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and won an Oscar for its breathtaking cinematography.
The film stars Alan Ladd, Van Heflin, Jack Palance, 10- year old Brandon de Wilde and Jean Arthur. The role was Arthur's final performance. Both Palance and de Wilde received Oscar nominations for their roles. The film was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Directing, and Best Writing.
Energy Laboratories and Brink Electric Construction Company are the corporate sponsor. Other movies remaining in the 1998 film series include The Graduate ( Feb. 8); The Caine Mutiny ( Feb. 15); A Man for All Seasons ( Feb. 22); West Side Story ( Mar. 1); Deliverance ( Mar. 8); and Blazing Saddles ( Mar. 15). Admission is by series ticket booklets or individual tickets sold for $ 4 at the door on a space available basis.
