Tech Team Finished Third In Robotics Competition
A South Dakota Tech robot finished in third place during the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers regional robotics competition held this past weekend in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Dozens of teams representing universities in Texas, Colorado, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma and South Dakota entered robots in the competition. Tech entered three robots, and won third place with the entry "Flash.”
The other Tech robots, “Vader” and “Fresh Meat,” did not place in the standings but received designations of “qualified.”
Teams had to design and build autonomous robots that could follow a black line track in the fastest time possible. The track contained various intersections, line disappearances, ramps and turns. Each of these situations was preceded by a symbol on the track that the robots could detect. The robots needed to interpret and act on the symbols correctly to achieve the most efficient path to the finish line.
