Is the Science Center closing?
Yes, it is. The Center’s last day of operations as currently formatted is Saturday, May 22.
Why is the Science Center closing?
The Science Center will close while plans are formulated for its future. The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology has been working with the city of Rapid City and the Rapid City Area School District on a transition plan for exhibits and programming associated with the center. Other organizations have also expressed interest in continuing some components of the Center. Those plans remain in the early stages.
What’s going to happen to the Science Center?
The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is interested in serving the best interests of the Rapid City community. We truly appreciate all the support we’ve received from businesses and individuals in this community. We know people value this center, and want them to know that their contributions have had a tremendous impact on the lives of thousands and thousands of children in the Rapid City community. We assure everyone that we will do everything possible to ensure them that the exhibits and educational resources will continue to be available in some format.
Is the Science Center still open?
The Center’s last day before the transition stage begins is May 22. Until then, the Center will be open from 3 p.m. to 5: 30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday; and from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The Science Center is also having a 50 percent off sale on all gift shop items.
What happens to my membership?
All Science Center members will receive gift shop credit for the prorated value of their memberships until May 22. The Science Center is also having a 50 percent off sale on all gift shop items. Your ASTC membership and all its benefits will continue until Science Center’s membership with ASTC expires next spring.
