NEWELL STUDENTS WIN EARTH SCIENCE HONORS IN 1997 SDSM& T SCIENCE CONTEST
Newell High School students took home the Division II traveling team trophy in Earth Science during the recent 1997 SDSM& T Science Contest. Newell’s earth science team members were Ashley Lewis, Wendy Lewis, David Ullrich and Adam Jukkula. Their teacher is Frances Olson. David Ullrich and Adam Jukkula also won 1st and 3rd place respectively in the individual student Earth Science category.
Over 250 entrants from area high schools competed in the 1997 SDSM& T Science Contest which was held on the South Dakota Tech campus on April 15th. Individual students and teams competed in the categories of biology, chemistry, earth science, and physics. Newell students competed in Division II, which was comprised of schools with less than 500 students.
In the other Division II categories, St. Thomas More won the traveling team trophy in biology, chemistry, and physics. In Division I ( those with 500 or more students), Rapid City Stevens High School won the traveling team trophy in all three categories of competition -- biology, chemistry, and physics.
The individual and team winners in the respective categories for Division II are as follows:
