Tech Holds Snowfall Contest
The September snowfall in the Northern Hills isn’t stopping the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology’s Institute of Atmospheric Sciences from holding its annual “First Snow of the Season” contest.
In the past, the Institute has opened the contest to Tech faculty, students, and staff. This year, the Institute invites the community to compete for a gift certificate to a local restaurant.
Contestants need to send the date and exact time the first inch of snow will be measured after Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the National Weather Service office on Star Village Hill in Rapid City.
The entry with the time and date closest to the observed time and date will win a $40 dinner for two at a local restaurant of the winner’s choice. In the event of a tie, a drawing will determine the winner.
Contestants must live within a 100-mile radius of Rapid City, and entries are limited to one per person.
To enter, send your name, address, phone number, and the date and exact time (hour, including a.m. or p.m., and minutes) you think the first inch of snow will be measured, to email@example.com or to Snow Contest, c/o Institute of Atmospheric Sciences, SDSM&T, 501 East Saint Joseph Street, Rapid City, S.D. 57701. Entries must arrive at the Atmospheric Sciences Department before 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10.
