Local Students Participate In Engineering Program At Tech
The following students from Aberdeen are among 20 high school students heading into their junior year participating in this week’s third Youth Engineering Adventure at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
The students will personalize circuit board displays, tour local engineering firms and explore engineering careers during the program. The weeklong event began Sunday, June 8, when students converged on Tech, a science and engineering university in Rapid City, S.D. The event runs through Friday, June 13.
We want to introduce high school students to some of the important and interesting projects that engineers work on by letting them explore hands-on activities,” Dr. Larry Simonson, program coordinator, said. He also is a professor in Tech’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. “Engineers help make the world run. We want to show students how they do that.”
Bringing high school juniors to the event gives them two years to take the courses that will help prepare them to study engineering in college.
