SDSM& T HOSTS 3RD ANNUAL WOMEN IN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING CONFERENCE
The 3rd Annual Women in Science and Engineering Conference, “ Women Succeeding in Today’s Technology,” was held Saturday, March 22, on the SDSM& T campus. All area female students in the 9th- 12th grades were invited to attend the conference, which was co- sponsored by the Society of Women Engineers ( SWE) and Women in Science and Engineering ( WISE).
The conference encourages young women to consider careers in the fields of science and engineering. Participants received hands- on experience in SDSM& T campus labs with SWE members, SDSM& T students and professors. Tours were offered of labs with emphasis in the areas of Civil/ Environmental Engineering; Computer Engineering/ Computer Science; Chemistry/ Chemical Engineering; Geology/ Geological Engineering; Math, Physics and Electrical Engineering; Mechanical/ Industrial Engineering; and Metallurgical/ Mining Engineering. Young women attending the conference also had an opportunity for discussions with local professional women and SDSM& T faculty members during lunch at the multi- cultural expo, which also was being held on the SDSM& T campus that day.
