ERSKINE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 4TH- GRADERS TAKE PART IN 1997 WATER FESTIVAL
Fourth grade classes from Erskine Elementary School in Sturgis participated recently in the 1997 Water Festival hosted by the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Over 1080 students from fifteen Black Hills area schools took part in this year’s Water Festival, which is an environmental education program directed to fourth graders.
All of the fourth- graders competed in a quiz bow and also participated in at least three 20- minute presentations related to some aspect of non- point pollution, water quality and other environmental issues. The Water Festival is funded by the Environmental Protection Agency through the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources, along with state agencies and local businesses. Norwest Bank is the major corporate sponsor of the event.
