RAPID CITY ‐‐‐‐ The South Dakota School of Mines football program announced the signing of Zach Grapentine to the 2008 Hardrocker team and in doing so, have added yet another player from the Belle Fourche High School Broncs.
Grapentine is the fourth athlete to join the Hardrockers since March after SD Mines and Hardrocker football head coach Dan Kratzer inked a trio of brothers (Colin, Caleb and Cliff
Kling) from the Western South Dakota town. “We are expecting great things from Zach,” Kratzer said. “He is going to add speed and depth to our specialty areas, receivers, defensive backs and special teams play. We are excited that he has picked South Dakota Mines to extend his playing career.”
Grapentine (6‐foot‐2‐iches, 200 pounds) was a two‐year starter as a defensive back and wide receiver with the Broncs and also returned kicks. In his career he had several interceptions as well as pass break ups.
Grapentine also excelled in track and field and basketball during his time at Belle Fourche high school. He most recently participated in the 4x400 and 4x200 relay at the Class A State Track Meet. In basketball, he was known as being an aggressive player at both ends of the court.
While attending the South Dakota School of Mines, Grapentine plans to major in Civil Engineering. The Hardrockers kick off the 2008 season with a home game Aug. 30 at Dunham Field against Haskell Nations Indian University.
