REGISTER NOW FOR THE “ SCIENCE BEHIND MAGIC”
AT THE CHILDREN’S SCIENCE CENTER!
The Madman of Magic Robert Friedhoffer will present Science Behind Magic at the Children’s Science Center on January 11, 12, and 13, 1999 from 4: 00 – 9: 00 pm. The course is a one- credit hour graduate level course offered through the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology ( SDSM& T). K- 12 teachers are encouraged to enroll in the three- day class where they will be taught some tricks of the trade to take back to their individual classrooms. Friedhoffer will go through many of the hundreds of magical tricks and illusions he employs to demonstrate the scientific principles behind the magic – as science is what makes much of magic work.
Friedhoffer is the author of more than 25 books for children about science and magic. He has also designed five magic/ science sets through Educational Design of New York City, and is working on an additional kit focusing on the magic of Ancient Egypt. Friedhoffer earned his BA in accounting from the University of Miami in Florida, and after magic became his career, he earned his MA in the history and philosophy of science from the City University of New York.
Cost for the three- day course is $ 161.25. Class size is limited to 35 students. The Children’s Science Center is located at 515 West Boulevard in Rapid City. For registration information, contact the Children’s Science Center at 394- 6996.
