TECH’S SOLAR MOTION TEAM CONTENDS THE DREARY WEATHER THROUGH 3RD DAY OF SUNRAYCE ’ 99 COMPETITION
The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is entering their fourth day of competition in Sunrayce ’ 99 battling the dreary weather of the East Coast. Sunrayce ’ 99 began Sunday, June 20 in Washington D. C. and will take competitors through five states and ten days of competition to the finish line on June 29 in Orlando, Florida.
At the end of the third day of racing competition, unofficial results for the day put Tech’s solar motion team tied for 22nd place with 8 other schools. The third day saw Tech’s solar car, Dakota Heat, have an elapsed time of 12: 31: 12 with an average speed of 14.43 mph. Overall results for Sunrayce ’ 99 put Tech in 26th place out of 29 competing universities. Over the three days of competition, Tech has a total elapsed time of 33: 14: 32, and a total average speed of 14.87 mph.
The top three teams after three days of competition include, 1st place- University of Missouri, 2nd place- Queen’s University, and 3rd place- Rose- Hulman Institute of Technology.
