LOCAL STUDENT PARTICIPATES IN SDSM& T UNDERGRADUATE
The South Dakota School of Mines & Technology ( SDSM& T) Undergraduate Research Symposium was held Tuesday, April 20, 1999 in conjunction with the 3rd Annual Senior Design Fair. Matt Meland of Cedar Rapids presented his project entitled “ Fluid Dynamics Laboratory and Pump Sizing Experiment.” Meland is a senior Chemical Engineering major at Tech. The Symposium gave students an opportunity to share their research experiences with peers, faculty and staff members.
Other presenters and their project titles include: Jessica Gould ( Jr, CEE, Rapid City), “ Necessary Stream Characteristics for a Cold- Water Brown Trout Fishery”; Terry Apa ( Sr, ChE, Rapid City) and Mike Peterson ( Sr, ChE, Rapid City), “ Design of High Temperature Laboratory Reactor for Catalytic Dehydration of Propane”; Erik Koski ( Jr, ChE, Rapid City), “ The Addition of Fine Silicon Powder to Solutions Used in the PCA Processes”; Brigitte Hornig ( Jr, ChE, De Smet, SD), “ Combustion Synthesis in Gasless Reacting Systems”; Travis Downing ( Jr, Met, Irvine, CA), “ Nanomechanical Analysis of the Interphase in Polymer Matrix Composites”; and Dustin Harrison ( Jr, CENG, Rapid City, SD) and Scott Johnson ( So, EE, Belle Fourche, SD), “ Novel Antenna for Ground Penetrating Radar.”
