LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL INSTRUCTOR IS HONORED WITH OUTSTANDING
During the 48th Annual Honors Convocation held Tuesday, March 30, at South Dakota School of Mines & Technology ( SDSM& T), Dale McCrea was honored with the American Indian Science and Engineering Society ( AISES) Outstanding Teacher Award. McCrea is an instructor of industrial technology at Cheyenne- Eagle Butte High School in Eagle Butte.
Dale McCrea has been teaching students about the industrial technologies since 1979, and is currently in his 14th year at the Cheyenne- Eagle Butte High School. In 1992, he was selected to be the National Indian School Board Association’s Teacher of the Year and also received the Excellence in Teaching Award from Cheyenne Eagle Butte that same year.
McCrea was nominated for the award by Tony Fischer, a freshman computer engineering major at SDSM& T. Tony wrote that, “ Mr. McCrea is one of those teachers who is impartial, interesting, strict, but fun. He treats his students not as pupils but as equals”.
