Robert Glasgow – Calvin Time
February 15 – March 24
On Tuesday, February 15, an exhibition of the artwork of Robert Glasgow, Professor of Printmaking at the University of Iowa, will open in the Apex Gallery. Glasgow creates his images by exploring autobiographical topics within the framework of abstraction. Mining memories of his early childhood, he conveys a feeling of loss, myth, and change. Nostalgia without sentimentality is layered into his richly textured mixed- media pieces.
Glasgow works in series that explore themes as much as they explore techniques in the print media. By transcending traditional straightforward printmaking techniques he integrates monotype, xerox transfers, intaglio and relief in a metaphor for the increasingly complex and changing world which we inhabit. While his images contain the essence of events that impact us so strongly as children.
The Apex Gallery now has video conferencing available in the gallery and will be scheduling a conversation with Glasgow during the run of Calvin Time. Please call for details.
Glasgow was chosen as the juror for the exhibition “ Cry of the Land” that will open at the Dahl Fine Arts Center on Feb. 4.
