MOUNT VERNON STUDENT AWARDED 4- YEAR PRESIDENTIAL
SCHOLARSHIP AT SDSM& T
Daniel Nebelsick of Mount Vernon was recently selected to receive the Nels and Elise Afdahl Presidential Scholarship at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology ( SDSM& T). The scholarship, in the amount of $ 2,000 for the 1998- 99 academic year, is renewable for three additional years contingent on maintaining a 3.00 cumulative grade point average and continued enrollment at SDSM& T as a full- time student. The Nels & Elise Afdahl Scholarship was established at SDSM& T by Anson Yeager of Sioux Falls in honor of his stepfather and mother.
Daniel is a 1998 graduate of Mount Vernon High School, where he was actively involved with basketball, track, chorus, All- State Chorus, Boys State, oral interpretation, and the CBH Academic Competition. He will be a freshman at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology ( SDSM& T) this fall and plans to major in civil engineering.
“ A career in civil engineering will give me a chance to fulfill many of my dreams. Civil engineering combines everything I am interested in: design, construction and the chance to work outdoors occasionally,” stated Nebelsick in his scholarship application essay. “ Civil engineering is all about designing ways to make people’s lives better whether it be purifying water or building a bridge over a river. After I graduate from college I would like to find a job right here in the Midwest where I can help the people I grew up around.”
