News In Brief
The big event of the Mines gridiron season will be the homecoming game on "M" Day,
"Barney" Lewellyn comes to the Mines as Football Coach. Bob Hunt returns as backfleld
and Basketball Coach.
Student enrollment expected to reach an all time high of 700 for the year of 1947-48.

H. Merle Parsons (Met21) resigns. Merle and family will move to Colorado in October.
G. R. Van Duzee and A. E. McHugh have started to rebuild a strong Metallurgy Department.
Mines Dorm and Temporary Labs still not ready for occupancy.
Dr. J. P. Connolly has announced that the Regents have appoined Earl D. Dake (CE24)
Acting Vice President of the school.
James Harder (Min-Geol31) has gone up to Chief Geologist with Homestake at Lead, Archie Slaughter (Min-Geol33) becomes Ass't Chief Geologist.
Now is the time to revise the Placement Service files for 1947-48
C. Philip Erickson (EE30), Chief Engineer, Rex Manufacturing Company, died in Connersville, Indiana.
Mines Alumni were guests of J. V. N. Dorr at Westport, Conn. Utah Alunmi held a picnic
at Rotary Park, Salt Lake City. Pittsburgh Section elected Vern Simpkins (Met41)
chairman at their summer meeting. Seattle Section held two meetings this summer. The Chicago Section held an inspection trip to Inland Steel and a dinner at Whiting, Indiana.
Sherman Gregory (EE26) is now Radio Advertising Mgr for Campbell Soup.
Standard Oil announces that Dr. Roy N. Giles (ChE27) has been promoted to director of technical services, Standard of Indiana, with headquarters in Chicago.
F. C. (Ted) Brockett (Ex04) is now with the commission in Greece.
A number of Alumni are with the Oliver Mining Co., in Minnesota.
Many Alumni received advanced degrees this summer. The Mines Staff has been increased
by some 15 members. All 50 graduates this spring had many offers of jobs.
The list of dues and contributions is very long. It will be printed in November.
