The School of Mines finds it necessary to maintain a Preparatory Department
on account of certain sections of the state being without adequate High
School facilities. Students from these portions of the commonwealth
frequently enter the School of Mines deficient in entrance requirements.
It is mainly for their sake that the School maintains the above department.
The faculty is the same as that of the School of Mines, though three
teachers devote their time exclusively to preparatory work. Such subjects
as Chemistry, Physics, Physical Geography, are given by the respective
departments of the School of Mines whose ample laboratory facilities are at
the disposal of preparatory students.
The tuition and incidental fee is $12 per year or $6 per semester. Small
fees ranging from $1 to $4 are required in Physics, Biology and Chemistry.
